ROUND 8 / MARCH 2, 2024 DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY / DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA SUPERCROSS I MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES / AMA SUPERMOTOCROSS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP P76 haven't been riding during the week. This weekend was bet- ter, but definitely nowhere near where I need to be." Cooper Webb held on to sec- ond place in points by fighting his way around Ken Roczen for fourth in the waning stages of the 450SX main event. Webb saw his Daytona podium six- year run come to an end. "I got off to a mediocre start and lost touch with that front pack," Webb said. "I made some good passes late in the race, frustrating because once I did the quad, I was on the right side of the lip, and it was no big deal. It was just a mistake, and I wish I would've caught on to it earlier and taken a little more risk." Sexton looked back to form as he holeshotted the 450 main and led the first four laps of the elongated course. The KTM rider, who's admittedly recover - ing from a hand injury, shot out to the early lead over Tomac and Lawrence. The defend- ing champ put up a fight after dropping to second and kept Tomac behind him for most of the main event. In the final laps, the number-one slipped back to third but still earned his fourth podium of the 2024 campaign. "I just never felt like I had the speed to go all the way," Sexton said. "It was frustrating seeing those guys go by me, and I was trying as hard as I could. I was riding okay, but it wasn't good enough speed. That's something I have to work on, having that intensity. The last few weeks, I've just been 'blah' because I early laps and worked hard to keep Lawrence behind. Once Lawrence managed to get by, Tomac worked the clutch hard to keep the leaders in sight. His bike began smoking before the halfway mark, begging the ques - tion of whether he could even make it to the finish line. "I didn't recognize the smoke coming out, but honestly, my clutch felt fine," said Tomac. "The ruts got super deep, and I'm kind of a clutch abuser and obviously got the bike hot. That's just what happens." Tomac opted not to quad into the long rhythm lane and even - tually lost the tow to the lead. He still stayed close in third and eventually made the pass for second around Sexton with just two laps remaining. With four second-place results this year, Tomac sits fourth in points. "That [rhythm] cost me any chance at the win," Tomac said. "I didn't do it at all in the heat race and then in the main until after I got passed by Jett some - where halfway there. It was bassador, and Tate participated in the rider-autograph session at the team rig, signing his own custom posters. "I'm excited to have Tate back in our truck for another two years," Lars said. "He was highly sought after by the other teams, but after intense negotiations, we were able to get the deal done." WILSON INJURED Firepower Honda's Dean Wilson was running as high as 10th in the 450SX main event before he went down and pulled out. He report- edly suffered a broken scapula. CLARK LOVES DAYTONA Izaih Clark, from Fort Dodge, Iowa, had a great weekend in Daytona. The Lasting Impres- sions LLC-backed Honda rider was a big winner at the Daytona Arenacross on Friday night. Clark then qualified for the 250SX East main event the following day at the Daytona Supercross, where he placed 17th. Briefly... 2024 Daytona Supercross Video Highlights
