Garry persevered until the end of 2004, but the demands of ever-increasing travel were straining his health and robbing him of priceless family time. His daughter, Phoebe, was then 8, and Garry said, "I'd never been at home for one of her birthdays." He took the opportunity to retire, returning briefly and heading the short-lived Huawei Moto3 team figure-headed by long-standing ally John Surtees.
