450SX Lawrence needed a rebound. After winning the season opener at Anaheim 1, the young Aussie hasn't been on the box since. Two mudders, a dicey Triple Crown and a scuffle with Jason Anderson seemed to derail the rider who went undefeated outdoors just a few months ago. Detroit hit differently for Lawrence, though. He logged a perfect day by registering the fastest time in qualifying, winning his heat race, and later executing a crucial holeshot on the shorter Detroit track layout. From there, it was smooth sailing for the Honda rider as he controlled the race from the front and led every lap of the 28-lap main event. Lawrence is firmly establishing himself as a title player, as he's now the first repeat winner of 2024. Then, after the start of the main event, someone on the inside just sent it to everyone, and we all went cartwheel- ing. It happens. We got some points, and we didn't quit. Now we've just got to go and tick off some wins and gain these points back." 27 MALCOLM STEWART 11TH 450SX It was another quiet night for Malcolm Stewart. "Detroit, I was P1 in free practice, which meant I felt pretty good all day," Stewart said. "Ninth overall in qualifying, then fifth in the heat, and felt good at that point. I tried to get by [Jason] Anderson in the whoops after a good start, and then just dropped MYOWNRACE Chase Sexton (1) stayed close in third, but a few mistakes kept him from making a run for the lead.
