A cartoon satirizing the energy crisis of the time, when gas prices
skyrocketed to nearly 49 cents a gallon, was on the cover 50 years
ago... We questioned if Baja races would continue due to issues
between the Mexican government and the U.S. promoters. Luckily,
a new organization—SCORE, headed by Mickey Thompson—
would later step in and save the day… We rode two Kawasakis, the
F-11 Enduro and the KX250, and determined that the F-11 "is an
acceptable street and toodle-in-the-bushes motorcycle."

LOOKING BACK I
We test rode the latest CR250 motocrosser from Honda and a photo
of the bike was featured on the cover 40 years ago with test rider "Mr.
Bill" Jewell. It retailed for $2418... More than 70,000 spectators filled
Anaheim Stadium for the opening round of the Insport/Wrangler
Supercross Series. Johnny O'Mara took the win over Je˜ Ward and
Rick Johnson... Sue Fish won the 250cc Intermediate class at Spillway
Park MX in Santa Maria, California… Dan Smith took the overall win in
the Desert MC's Hare & Hound.
