Photos from the Baja 1000 and the Hopetown GP were featured on
the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago. Mitch Mayes and AC Bakken
teamed up to win in Baja, and 15,000 racers and fans turned out for
the 15th running of the Dirt Diggers'-hosted GP... Evel Knievel's
Harley-Davidson Skycycle made its first test flight over the Snake
River. It didn't make it, but Knievel was still confident it would with him
in it later... We tested the Mexican-made Carabela 125 MX bike.

LOOKING BACK I
We showed our readers some of the latest production motorcycles
from Honda, which included the 1984 Honda Interceptor 1000 and the
700 Nighthawk S... We had coverage of the CZ World Championship
from Saddleback... Yamaha hosted its 1984 model introduction
with the media at Willow Springs, where Kenny Roberts and Eddie
Lawson doubled up on a Yamaha Venture luxury touring bike and ran
a few laps on the track, with Roberts at the controls... Lance King
captured the U.S. Long Track Speedway Championship at Ascot.
