Bou Clinches X-Trial World Championship
R
epsol Honda's Toni Bou did it
again. The Spaniard clinched
the 2023 FIM X-Trail Champion-
ship in front of the home fans
at Madrid Arena in Spain on
November 4. It is the 17th indoor
title and 34th overall for Bou.
Bou ended up battling for the
night's win against his Repsol
Honda teammate Gabriel Mar
-
celli, who won one of the rounds,
but Bou shined in the final to
take the night's win and champi-
onship with one round still to go
the following weekend in France.
Third on the night went to
Montesa rider Toby Martyn,
while Jaime Busto (GasGas) and
Adam Raga (TRS) rounded out
the top five overall.
Busto is still second in the
championship, 11 points ahead
of Marcelli. Raga is 18 points
behind Marcelli and Martyn is a
distant fifth.
"Winning a title with a victory
is the best thing, although the
important thing is always to get
the title," Bou said. "We started
the final very well in zone one,
but we made a mistake in zone
two and it made life very dif
-
ficult. The area where the differ-
ence was made was zone four
because it was very difficult to
overcome that obstacle. Winning
on the last zone was amazing."
"Today my riding was very
good, and I managed to stay with
Toni throughout the final, even
going ahead in some cases,"
Marcelli said. "In the end, we
finished with another second po
-
sition, which is a super positive
result, and I am very happy about
it."
