ore than 100,000 fans over
the October 6-8 weekend
packed the Moto Club
d'Ernee to watch the 76th running of
the Motocross of Nations, where the
home team dominated from start to
finish, leaving no doubt who had the
best team of 2023. By the third and
final moto, the French squad, made
up of Romain Febvre, Tom Vialle and
Maxime Renaux, essentially just had
to show up to the start line, and the
Chamberlain Trophy was theirs for
the first time in five years.
The French trio accumulated a
low winning score of just 14 points,
which was 20 points clear of the
next-best team, Australia, at 34. The
Aussies finished nine points clear of
third-place finishers Italy. Germany
was a close fourth, and Belgium
rounded out the top five.
As for the defending champs,
Team USA endured crashes and
bad starts and, at times, found it
difficult to keep pace with the top
GP regulars. The U.S. trio, made up
of Christian Craig, Aaron Plessinger
and RJ Hampshire, finished out the
day a disappointing eighth overall.
