Drama In British Superbike At Donington Park
T
he British Superbike Champi-
onship took a dramatic turn
at Donington Park with Tommy
Bridewell (BeerMonster Ducati)
crashing into teammate and chief
title rival, Glenn Irwin in race two.
Kyle Ryde (Yamaha), Irwin and
Bridewell were all in close quar
-
ters going into the Melbourne
Hairpin when Bridewell got it
sideways under braking and clat-
tered into his teammate, sending
both crashing out of the race.
An irate Irwin ran over to his
teammate and gave him a proper
verbal spray, gesticulating wildly
and leaving no one in any doubt
as to his feelings.
It capped off a horror weekend
for Irwin who scored no points
from three starts thanks to the
race-two crash and technical
problems in races one and three.
However, it was almost equally
awful for title leader Bridewell,
who finished 24th in race one,
crashed in race two, and only
ninth in race three meaning
he holds a mere 7.5-point lead
over his rival teammate with
one round to go and 105 points
still to play for. Lee Jackson
(Kawasaki), Jason O'Halloran
(Yamaha), Josh Brookes (BMW)
and Christian Iddon (Ducati) are
all within mathematical points
range after strong performances
over the weekend.
At Donington, it was a Yamaha
benefit with Ryan Vickers taking
race one, his Lami OMG Racing
Yamaha teammate Kyle Ryde
winning race two and Jason
O'Halloran claiming race three.
