VOLUME ISSUE SEPTEMBER , P73
in a head-to-head battle for the
250SMX crown.
Despite not winning either
moto, Deegan came out with
the title. The 250-rookie started
of Colt Nichols in fifth. March-
banks, Masterpool, Noren, Nico-
letti and Sexton rounded out the
top 10 on the night. Even with
a crash, Sexton finished third in
the series.
250SMX
The action in the 250-class
proved to be equally as excit-
ing, with three riders also in
contention for the overall. That
changed when Hunter Law
-
rence opted out of the night's
racing after re-aggravating a
back injury he sustained during
Friday's practice. With Law
-
rence out of the picture, that put
Haiden Deegan and Jo Shimoda
way, Webb's progress is obvious
as he continues to build for the
2024 season.
"I think it was good to get
some gate drops," Webb said.
"Tonight was better, but a lot of
it was on me. I need to get fitter
and stronger, and you learn the
bike as you race. When you're
pounding laps at the practice
track, you feel great, but when
you come to the race, it's a lot
different. Me and Eli [Tomac] are
planning to ride a lot during the
off-season, so we'll see how it
works out."
Adam Cianciarulo grabbed
a holeshot in race one and
finished fourth overall ahead
TRIPLE POINTS
Round three of the SMX playoffs
brought a triple-point payout to
the table. It proved detrimental
for riders like Hunter Lawrence,
who didn't race at the Coliseum,
as he dropped from first to ninth
overall in the series standings.
Chase Sexton also finished 10th
overall and dropped from first to
third overall.
Briefly...
Cooper Webb
finished a lonely
third, but it was
his best result of
the series.
