Ken Roczen. The two yo-yo'd at
the front of the pack, reminis-
cent of their battle at High Point

With neither rider having a clear
advantage, Lawrence shook
things up as he surprisingly

450SMX
After finishing fourth overall
(7-2 moto finishes) at the SMX
opener, Jett Lawrence returned
to form at Chicagoland Speed-
way. The 450 rookie favored the
motocross
layout and made his
intentions clear with a dominant
win in the first race of the night.
Race two saw a much tighter
battle between Lawrence and
24 RJ HAMPSHIRE
4TH (5-4) 250SMX
RJ Hampshire set the fastest qualify-
ing time and landed just off the podi-
um in the overall rankings. "This was
much improved from last weekend.
Last weekend was such a struggle.
I was just looking for any type of
positive from this weekend, and I
came out and was P1 in practice—I
believe that's one of my first poles of
the season—and then just two solid
motos. I didn't get great starts, but
I didn't get terrible starts, so fourth
overall on the day."
32 JUSTIN COOPER
12TH (17-6) 250SMX
Justin Cooper fell in race one but
rebounded with the holeshot and led
in race two. "In the first moto, I got
caught up in a pileup, and my arm
got pretty banged up. Someone ran
it over, so from there I rode through
the pain in the first moto. In the sec-
ond moto, I somehow got a holeshot,
so that was really nice. I led a few
laps and then dropped back to sixth.
It wasn't the best, but at least we are
out of here in one piece."
