Young Takes Third CSBK Title
B
en Young (BMW) captured
his third Canadian Superbike
Championship victory after
winning races one and two and
finishing second in race three at
the final round of the season at
Shannonville Motorsport Park,
September 16-17.
Former champion Alex Dumas
(Suzuki) took the final race of
the season with Young coming
home second ahead of Ducati's
Trevor Dion.
"Some people thought that
we only won the championship
last year because Alex crashed
in AMP, so to prove that wrong,
even after all the bad luck we've
had, it feels really special," Young
said. "But it's been a great year
battling him, and it took a great
bike and a great team behind me
to make it happen.
"I was pursuing Alex all race,
and he was really pushing me to
my limit," Young said after race
two. "A few times I even caught
myself wondering if I should
back off a bit and settle into
second, but I was stronger on
the brakes, so I just put my head
down and went for it," Young
said.
Dumas' final race win of the
season came after leading start-
to-finish ahead of Young and
Dion with veteran Jordan Szoke
coming home fourth.
"It's been a hard weekend. Not
at all the weekend we wanted,
so it's good to at least end it on
a high note," Dumas said. "I have
to thank the team for putting
together a really good program,
and one that didn't plan on being
second. But it's always nice to
win the last race of the season,
so now we'll see what we can do
next year."
