The two yo-yo'd at the front of the pack, reminis- cent of their battle at High Point Raceway earlier this summer. With neither rider having a clear advantage, Lawrence shook things up as he surprisingly pulled over and waved Roczen through and into the lead. With the Olympic scoring system, Lawrence figured doing so 450SMX After finishing fourth overall (7-2 moto finishes) at the SMX opener, Jett Lawrence returned to form at Chicagoland Speed- way. The 450 rookie favored the motocross layout and made his intentions clear with a dominant win in the first race of the night. Race two saw a much tighter battle between Lawrence and 24 RJ HAMPSHIRE 4TH (5-4) 250SMX RJ Hampshire set the fastest qualify- ing time and landed just off the podi- um in the overall rankings. "This was much improved from last weekend. Last weekend was such a struggle. I was just looking for any type of positive from this weekend, and I came out and was P1 in practice—I believe that's one of my first poles of the season—and then just two solid motos. I didn't get great starts, but I didn't get terrible starts, so fourth overall on the day." 32 JUSTIN COOPER 12TH (17-6) 250SMX Justin Cooper fell in race one but rebounded with the holeshot and led in race two. "In the first moto, I got caught up in a pileup, and my arm got pretty banged up. Someone ran it over, so from there I rode through the pain in the first moto. In the sec- ond moto, I somehow got a holeshot, so that was really nice. I led a few laps and then dropped back to sixth. It wasn't the best, but at least we are out of here in one piece." MYOWNRACE
