After qualifying on pole with a
massive 0.6-second advantage
over Josh Herrin (Warhorse
HSBK Racing Ducati), Jake
Gagne (Fresh N Lean Progres-
sive Yamaha) took it relatively
easy in race one, stretching
away for a 2.5-second victory
over the quickly improving Richie
Escalante (Vision Wheel M4
Ecstar Suzuki) and extra-impres
-
sive teammate, JD Beach, the
normally dirt-track-bound Beach
making only his second road rac
-
ing event of the year as fill-in for
the injured Cameron Petersen.
Herrin was running in the
podium places early on but
gradually dropped back through
the field and into retirement as
the heat got to his Ducati Pani
-
gale V4 R, losing a bit of ground
in the championship as he
attempts to safeguard second
place from Tytlers Cycle Racing
BMW's PJ Jacobsen.
"The first lap was kind of
wild," Gagne said. "Me and Her
-
rin went back and forth a little
bit, which was fun. I think even
just going into turn one, he was
up the inside. I released the
brake, he released the brake,
and we just kind of played that
game for a little while. It was a
bummer. I think he had a bike
issue. I just kind of put my head
down. I saw on the big board
that it was Richie [Escalante]
and JD up there second and
third after a few laps or mid-
race. Congrats to both these
guys. They really earned it. I
know Richie has been at this Su
-
perbike game for a while now.
The guy is so talented."
