A random photo of Doug Grant from Spillway Park was pictured on the
cover of Cycle News 50 years ago... We had coverage of the Motocross
des Nations from Wohlen, Switzerland. The Belgians took the win
with team members Roger DeCoster, Sylvain Geboers, Jaak Van
Velthoven and Raymond Heeren. Team USA only had three riders
after Kawasaki chose not to send Brad Lackey, so Team USA did not
have the luxury of a "throw-away" score. Still, Team USA, made up of
Jim Pomeroy, Mike Hartwig and John DeSoto, placed a creditable
fourth... The 25-lap Flat Track National was reduced to four laps due to
severe dust. Spectators rioted.
