A Solution
To Turn-One
Mayhem?
S
unday's first-turn pile-up at the
Catalunya MotoGP was the
fourth time at the Circuit of Bar
-
celona-Catalunya. It led to discus-
sions on how it could be avoided
in future years. One idea floated
was to move the start line 100-200
meters closer to turn one.
"If you look through the history
books at Barcelona, there's al
-
ways a big one at turn one," said
Jack Miller. "Always has been,
always will be," said the KTM
rider, who narrowly avoided being
brought down in the aftermath of
Bagnaia's fall.
Franco Morbidelli was ada
-
mant that change would improve
safety. "It's going to make a
difference, f**k, you arrive in fifth
year, 200-plus kilometers. There
is a big mess, and the braking is
more difficult. For sure, it's going
to make a difference."
But Luca Marini wasn't so
sure and cited the tricky turn
one at the Red Bull Ring as an
example that braking from fifth
or sixth gear isn't necessarily to
blame. "No. It [would just mean]
less speed, but then the cor
-
ner [shape] is the same. It also
[happened in] Austria, where the
speed is slow, so you need to
slow down a lot."

Yaakov To Make
Supersport Debut
K
ayla Yaakov will make her MotoAmerica Supersport
Championship debut this week at Circuit Of The Ameri-
cas, as she replaces Stefano Mesa on the Tytler's Cycle
Racing Kawasaki, with Mesa stepping up to replace the
injured Cameron Beaubier on the team's BMW Superbike.
Yaakov finished third in the 2023 Junior Cup and is
currently seventh in the Twins Cup Championship on
the Melissa Paris-run Yamaha YZF-R7.
"I am extremely excited to be joining the Tytlers Cycle
Racing Team for the final two rounds of the MotoAmerica Supersport season,"
Yaakov said. "This opportunity came completely out of the blue, and I am so thank
-
ful for this chance to try the Supersport bike in this stacked class. [It] won't be easy,
learning a new track and a new bike, but I know I have a strong team around me, and
I am ready for the challenge and what lies ahead. The decision to jump off the Twins
Cup bike and pursue Supersport so late in the season was difficult, but after a lot of
thought about my progression and my future in the sport, myself, The WagBar MP13
Racing Team and Yamaha have come to a mutual decision in allowing me to dedi
-
cate the rest of the year to the Tytlers Cycle Supersport program."
