We were so impressed with Can-Am's new rotary-valve engine in the company's 125cc and 175cc motocrossers that we featured it on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago... Bonneville was the place to be for the annual National Speed Trials and we were there... We had coverage of the Dutch Motocross Grand Prix, where Roger DeCoster wrapped up his third straight 500cc title... We also had coverage of the 250cc MX GP from Sweden, won by Hakan Andersson... Kel Carruthers led a Yamaha sweep at Talladega. YEARS AGO SEPTEMBER , P136 LOOKING BACK I Hakan Carlqvist was pictured on the cover for wrapping up the 500cc World Motocross Championship in Holland. The Swede finished just seven points ahead of Andre Malherbe... Mike Baldwin clinched his second consecutive U.S. Road Racing Championship at Brainerd... Ted Boody won the Hamburg Half-Mile in New York, his first National win in four years... The Dan duo of Dan Smith and Dan Ashcraft won the Frontier 500 (Las Vegas to Reno) on their Husqvarna...
