T
he MotoAmerica Super-
bike Championship is
over already, surprising
even the man who won it, Fresh
N Lean Progressive Yamaha's
Jake Gagne.
The Colorado resident
clinched the 2023 title two
rounds early after three race
wins in Pittsburgh, benefiting
after Cameron Beaubier (Tytlers
Cycle Racing BMW) was taken
out of the reckoning following a
bizarre incident with Aftercare
Scheibe Racing BMW's Ashton
Yates.
Early in the second race at
PittRace, Beaubier ran off the
track and was forced to fight
his way back through the pack.
Heading into the backstraight
chicane, Beaubier was lining
up Yates for a pass when the
Scheibe Racing BMW suffered
a mechanical problem in which
Yates' ride-by-wire throttle wire
came loose, thus rendering his
throttle inoperable. At this point,
Beaubier went smashing into
the back of Yates, suffering a
laceration to his head that took
him out of that and the third
race of the weekend.
Thus, Gagne had a walk-up
start to the title so long as
Josh Herrin (Warhorse HSBK
Ducati NYC) finished no better
Jake Gagne joins
the list of AMA
greats with his
third straight title.
