We were impressed with Dave Pauli's creation and put his custom
Sachs-BMW on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago... We had coverage
of the Mini-Cycle National Championship motocross from Saddleback
Park. It was the most attended race the track had ever hosted to date
with more than 600 entries... We also had coverage of the 250cc
Swedish MX Grand Prix. Hakan Andersson won both motos and
clinched the World title... Pierre Karsmakers (500cc) and Tim Hart
(250cc) topped the National MX round at Lake Whitney.

MX was featured on the cover 40 years ago. Bader Manneh, Mike
Healey and Keith Bowen were the stars of the week... Mark Barnett
(125cc), Rick Johnson (250cc) and Broc Glover (500cc) were
winners at the Washougal National Motocross... Kenny Roberts,
Freddie Spencer, Randy Mamola and Eddie Lawson made it an
American 1-2-3-4 at the British GP at Silverstone. Carlos Lavado
clinched the 250cc Championship... We attended the Gary Bailey/
Je' Spencer Advanced MX School.
