Bennick Wins Nicky Hayden
AMA Horizon Award

axton Bennick was officially
awarded the Nicky Hayden AMA
Motocross Horizon Award following
the Monster Energy AMA Amateur
National Motocross Championship at
Loretta Lynn's Ranch, August 1-5. The
Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha
Team rider swept the Open Pro Sport
division with 1-1-1 finishes, taking the
title in stride.
Bennick also finished second in
the 250 Pro Sport class with 7-2-6
results. Bennick will make his official
professional debut next weekend at
the Unadilla round of the Pro Moto
-
cross Championship.
The Horizon Award recognizes the
top-performing amateur racer on the
cusp of graduating into the profes-
sional ranks. The award was first
handed out in 1997 and given to Nick
Wey, whose son, Vincent, won the
Mini Sr. 2 (12-15) Champion this year.
"It's a good way to end my amateur
career winning Open Pro Sport and
the Horizon Award," said Bennick. "I'm
excited to go racing next weekend in
Unadilla."
The last 10 riders to take the
awards are Caden Braswell, Levi
Kitchen, Stilez Robertson, Jalek Swoll,
Derek Drake, Justin Cooper, Chase
Sexton, Benny Bloss, RJ Hampshire
and Matt Bisceglia.
