A photo of Nils-Arne Nilsson of Sweden was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago. Nilsson topped the first United States 125cc Grand Prix Motocross, which was held in St. Charles, Missouri... Mert Lawwill was the big winner at the Peoria TT. Kenny Roberts took second, and Dick Mann rounded out the podium... Cycle News tested the 1973 Suzuki TM250 motocrosser. We said, "Maybe 1974 will hold something better," and that "...cross-ups weren't really fun, just necessary." YEARS AGO AUGUST , P146 LOOKING BACK I We pictured our Yamaha TT600 four-stroke o'-roader on the cover of Cycle News 40 years ago. We said: "...you could do a lot worse than the TT600" ... We had coverage of the Miller High Life Superbowl of Motocross which was held at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. Broc Glover won the race, but David Bailey took the Supercross Championship. Bailey edged out Mark Barnett by two points for the title... Jimmy Filice won the Hawthorne Mile in Cicero, Illinois... We interviewed the "new kid on the block," Doug Chandler.
