On Saturday, Smage made
short work of the opening lap of
12 sections, posting clean scores
on every section except for the
12th. The most difficult part of
the 12th section was a large undercut log that was suspended
several feet off the ground. From
there the section continued into
a creek and out over a giant
stump. Most of the Pro class
didn't make it past the log, including Smage. Sherco USA's Logan
Bolopue and Gas Gas USA's
Eric Storz were the only riders
to get through section 12 on the
first lap, and both riders scored
a three.
The rain moved in on lap two,
and Smage took fives on two sections that he had cleaned on the
first lap. He also scored another
five over the log on section 12.
