BY CHRIS MARTIN PHOTOGRAPHY BY TIM LESTER R eigning Mission SuperTwins Champion Jared Mees came away from Orange County Fair Speedway on top—on top of the po - dium, on top of the points and on top of history. Despite clawing his way back from an early deficit all year, the season had been trending hard in the factory Indian Motorcycle star's direction for months now. His historic blowout at a venue hosting its first Grand Nation - al Championship round in some 35 years merely cemented that fact. Mees set sail at the front of the main event—twice in fact, including after his mammoth lead was undone by a late- red flag—and never provided anyone else much hope of claiming victory. In doing so, he not only edged ahead of young challenger Dallas Daniels in the championship stand - ings but also relegated the one-and- only Scott Parker to second on the career Half-Mile wins list. Mees' 36th Half-Mile triumph didn't seem preordained when the premier class formed up on the grid, how - ever. In fact, the day had been largely controlled by Johnny Lewis on the factory-backed Royal Enfield.
