J
ared Mees lined up on the
front row at West Virginia Mo-
tor Speedway with a whole lot
going in his favor. He sat there as
the reigning Mission SuperTwins
Champion, the only rider in the field
to have previously raced at the
venue when the series last visited
Mineral Wells back in 2006, and as
the owner of 34 prior Half-Mile vic
-
tories—more than any rider in the
long history of the Grand National
Championship save the unmatch-
able Scott Parker.
And yet, he felt like the under-
dog. His old rival, Briar Bauman,
was rolling strong yet again after
scoring a breakthrough win the
week before in Lima. His new rival,
Dallas Daniels, had proven to be
an ever-present force. And hungry
privateer Davis Fisher was brim
-
ming with confidence after having
just taken all three to school in
the four-lap Mission #2Fast2Tasty
Challenge an hour earlier.
