O
ne week ago, we were waxing lyrical about
Perfect Pecco (Ducati Lenovo) in his home
GP of Italy. It was very nearly the same
thing again this week, but he was bested in both
the Sprint and Sunday GP races by the man who
has now emerged as his main rival in the 2023
title race—Jorge Martin (Alma Pramac Ducati).
The diminutive Spaniard who goes by the nick
-
name The Martinator terminated all before him
in the rolling German countryside, withstanding
enormous pressure from the number-one Ducati
to move to within 16 points of the title lead.
Moto2 was a similar story as Pedro Acosta
(Red Bull KTM) held off chief title rival Tony
Arbolino (Marc VDS Kalex), while in Moto3, it was
a hugely popular first-time win for Tukey's Deniz
Oncu (Red Bull KTM Ajo), who pulled a last-cor
-
ner masterstroke on Ayumu Sasaki (Liqui Moly
Husqvarna).
