ROUND 9 / JUNE 17, 2023 DU QUOIN STATE FAIRGROUNDS / DU QUOIN, ILLINOIS FLAT TRACK I PROGRESSIVE AMERICAN FLAT TRACK P100 mere 0.011 of a second. Lowe was dropped to third, another 0.005 of a second "back." The result confirmed back- to-back-to-back Mile podium lockouts by the three, who col- lectively continue to make up for uneven openings to their '23 campaigns. The Red Bull KTMs made huge strides in their bid to be more competitive on the Miles but without a huge reward in the final order. Whale finished just 0.081 of a second off the win but missed out on the podium, while defending class champ Kopp ended up fifth, 0.025 of a second behind his teammate. Proven Mile ace Brunner was the unluckiest of the bunch, leading laps and crossing the stripe fractions of a second behind the race winner but still and Chase Saathoff, Estenson Racing Yamaha's Tom Drane and Trevor Brunner, and Red Bull KTM's Kody Kopp and Max Whale, went back and forth, and back again, from green light to checkered flag. In a race with a story's worth of details packed into every lap, we'll just skip to the end. Young Aussie Drane went from sixth to first just as the last two laps kicked off. He held the position to the white flag before being overhauled by Saathoff, and then Lowe, who quickly powered around his teammate as well to claim the lead as they exited turn four. The trio led the six-rider train to the flag with Drane nudging ahead to secure his second- career Progressive AFT victory, beating Saathoff to the line by a SINGLES The Parts Unlimited AFT Singles contest was pretty much exactly as one would expect at the Du Quoin Mile. We wouldn't have it any other way. A trio of works duos, Turner Racing Honda's Trent Lowe ally, really good for me. It allowed me to heal up and get my head straight. I came here knowing this was a racer's track. Typically, you can chase it wherever and it comes down less to the bike. We were up front from the beginning. In the main event, I real- ized I was on the slowest horse out of the four and realized it was better for me to settle in. I was testing the really high line to see if I could roll. I bid my time and had a gameplan from 10 laps on about what I was going to have to do. Thankfully, I executed it pretty well. I was second but it feels like a win." MYOWNRACE Briar Bauman (3) just missed getting on the SuperTwins podium.
