I
t was a rollercoaster weekend
for defending MotoAmerica
Superbike Champion Jake
Gagne who lost the champion
-
ship lead following a mechanical
DNF on Saturday, but the Fresh
N Lean Progressive Yamaha Rac
-
ing Team rider got it right back
on Sunday.
The weekend's winners were
former Superbike Champion
Cameron Beaubier, on the Tytlers
Cycle Racing BMW, and Josh
Herrin, on the Warhorse HSBK
Racing Ducati. Beaubier raced to
victory on Saturday only to suffer a
mechanical DNF on Sunday. Her
-
rin took Sunday's win. It was his
third AMA Superbike win at Road
America on three different brands
of motorcycles: Yamaha, Suzuki
and now Ducati.
SUPERBIKE
Saturday
After getting out to a good start,
a near off-track excursion in turn
three of Road America on the
opening lap of the Medallia Super
-
bike race dropped Beaubier back
in the thick of the pack, but it didn't
stop him from working his way to
the front and ultimately scoring his
second race win of the season.
"I just basically ran out of track
on the outside," said Beaubier.
"When you're braking straight
up and down there without any
angle, it's really easy to run wide. I
knew once I was wide off the rac
-
ing line the track is slick because
it almost caught me out a couple
times this weekend just being
off-line and having the rear end
come around and the front push.
So, I just tried to make sure I got
through there on two wheels and
then started my race from there."
Cameron Beaubier briefly
enjoyed getting the
Superbike points lead after
winning Saturday's race.
