omehow, recent events had
conspired to frame Jared
Mees as the underdog com-
ing into the weekend. Yes, the
same Jared Mees who circulated
Cal Expo with the number-one plate
on his bike and 23 prior mile wins
to his name, four of which were
earned at the Sacramento Mile.
And yet, the factory Indian hero
really did seem to be faced with an
uphill climb against his emerging
rival, Dallas Daniels aboard the Es
-
tenson Racing Yamaha MT-07 DT.
Last year, in a season in which
rule changes shifted the balance
of power, the Yamaha owned a
visible advantage on the long
straights of the miles over the
newly restricted Indian FTR750s.
While the Indians still boasted an
inertial advantage through the
corners, which allowed them to
carry greater momentum, Daniels
exploited his Yamaha's top-end
supremacy to snap Mees' Sac
Mile win streak as a rookie.
And that was just one of his
two triumphs over Mees on the
season's three miles (and the one
that went the other way only did
so after Daniels' lost power on
the final lap while very much in
contention).
Jared Mees took his
fifth Sacramento
Mile win at the 2023
event. He edged out
championship rival
Dallas Daniels.
