Lawrence didn't win the battle
but he won the war. He finished
third after an up-and-down night
of racing which saw him crash
in his heat race and later started
ninth in the main. Lawrence
moved patiently through the
pack and later dropped the ham-
mer to secure the final spot on
the box.
This is his fourth con-
secutive 250cc title, including
Supercross
and Pro Motocross,
and he now concludes his small-
bore career on a high note.
"I just took my time," Law-
rence said. "I knew I had to get
10th
or better so I was like 'All
right, we'll just chug along.' I got
into third by half-way and these
boys [Hampshire and Kitchen]
were out front so I said 'We'll
just wrap it up here.' This was
not the track to be sending it
on. We still got the number one
plate which is nice."
