"In 2020 I was done," Law-
rence said. "I dislocated my
shoulder at Loretta's and
needed a fourth surgery in
seven months. I was in such
a bad place. It's almost bitter-
sweet here in Tennessee. Not
far from here is the place that
nearly broke me and now I win
my first championship. That's
pretty cool."
Jo Shimoda held on for sec-
ond place, his best result since
returning after a pre-season inju-
ry. Shimoda started up front and
moved to second after passing
Smith. He stalked Lawrence for
most of the race but never got
close enough to make a move.
The Kawasaki rider then fended
off charges from Smith but kept
him at bay to secure second.
Shimoda is currently 16th in
points but could be a threat
come the East/West Showdown
in Salt Lake City.
