"As a rider all you can do is
your best," Shimoda said. "A
race is a race. I treat it the same
way and all I can do is [my] own
best."
Smith stayed up front to take
the final spot on the box. The
Star Racing Yamaha rider took
over the lead in the second turn
and looked to be running away
with what would've been his first
win of the season. Smith led
the first five laps before going
off-track in the sand section.
He lost two spots, and despite
staying close to Shimoda, Smith
stayed in third.
"That's what we've been
looking for all year," Smith said.
"Passing Hunter on the first lap
and running good for a few laps.
It's just those dang mistakes.
But I'm not taking these for
granted."
Haiden Deegan finished
fourth and continues to hold
second in points, just two over
Max Anstie, who finished fifth in
Nashville.
