FIM Trial World Championship
Gets Underway In Spain
G
asGas rider Jaime Busto
fired the first shot in the
2023 FIM Trial World Cham-
pionship when he topped the
first of two days of competi-
tion in Spain, April 15-16.
Friday rain resulted in slip-
pery conditions, which played
into the 26-year-old's hands.
The GasGas rider from Spain
finished six marks ahead of
defending champion, Repsol
Honda's Toni Bou (Montesa).
"It has been an incredible
day for me," said Busto. "I felt
great from the first section.
It wasn't hard but it was easy
to make mistakes. We were
very well prepared, and the
bike and the team worked
perfectly."
Bou's teammate, Gabriel
Marcelli captured his second
career podium in third. Adam
Raga (TRRS) and Aniol Gela
-
bert (Beta) rounded out the
top five.
Bou bounced back on Sun-
day. In much drier conditions,
both Bou and Busto dropped
several marks each, but Bou
had three less, which gave
him the day's victory.
"I am super-happy with the
victory, and I feel it is very
important for the champion
-
ship," said Bou. "I had a great
battle with Jaimeāhe is a big
talent, and it is amazing to be
fighting with him."
Raga traded third-place
positions with Marcelli on
Sunday, while Scorpa rider
Jorge Casales rounded out
the top five.
Bou and Busto head to
round two in Portugal tied at
the top of the championship
leaderboard.
