Our Honda TL-125 trials bike was pictured in action on the front page
with the cover lines "First Test of the First Japanese Trials Bike" 50
years ago... We had coverage of the first SRA 96-mile California City
Grand Prix, held on the city streets (right in front of Shakey's Pizza) and
surrounding desert... American Jim Pomeroy made big news when he
finished second (to Hans Maisch) on his Bultaco at the opening round
of the 250cc Motocross World Championship in Spain... Kawasaki-
mounted Brad Lackey finished seventh overall in the 500cc MX GP
opener in France.

LOOKING BACK I
David Bailey was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 40 years ago
to accompany our interview with the future MX Champion... We had
coverage of the Ascot TT, where Alex Jorgensen came away with the
victory... Fellow Husqvarna riders Ed Lojak and Terry Cunningham
battled it out at the Tulsa 3-Day ISDE Qualifier. Lojak squeaked out
the victory... Alan Cathcart tested the Garelli 125cc GP road racer.
(Unfortunately, there are no photos of Alan on the bike). He also tested
the Ducati 600 TT2 road racer... Johnny O'Mara, Bob Hannah and Broc
Glover were the winners at the Saddleback National MX.
