April Fool's Day was the theme in issue number 12 in 1973, where we
did some o-the-wall stu like hopping up a Honda C-102 and calling
it "Honda Killer," doing a road test on an actual road (Topanga Canyon
Blvd., which we had tested eight years earlier when it was just a
lonely narrow two-lane section of asphalt), covering a race that never
happened, and testing the make believe "Bulmotox DZR" bulldozer. But
it was an actual bulldozer... We did cover the Mint 400 that teammates
Rolf Tibblin and Mitch Mayes
won... We also had coverage
of the Great Bear Grand Prix
held at Riverside International
Raceway, where Mayes was
again the top racer.

LOOKING BACK I
Our BMW R80ST test bike was pictured on the cover 40 years ago. We
said there was a lot to like about it and very little to dislike, but we said at
$4190 that it was "not cheap."... We had coverage of Mike Baldwin's win
in the AMA Superbike Championship race at Talladega... Alan Cathcart
previewed the 1983 World Championship Road Race Series... Mark
Barnett (125cc), Bob Hannah (250cc) and Danny Chandler (500cc)
were the big winners at the Hangtown National Motocross... Jack
Johnson rode a Honda XR500 to victory at the San Felipe 250.
