Budget-friendly with high-end looks
RIDER ANALYSIS
The Fluid line is Alpinestars' most
budget-friendly gearset for adults,
and, when it's my money on the line,
I often prefer "budget" gearsets
over the higher-priced premier sets.
Why? Undoubtedly, the high-end
stuff is great and feels awesome
but one fall or a run-in with a branch
in the usually more delicate top-of-
the-line gear is guaranteed to rip.
Sometimes the practicality just isn't
there for me.
The Fluid gear is designed with
the average consumer in mind. I
have a few sets of the Fluid gear
now and haven't experienced any
rips or tears despite a few falls,
and, after several washings, no fad-
ing is evident. The pants are a bit
thicker and less stretchy than the
A'stars premier pants you see Jett
Lawrence or Chase Sexton wearing,
which sell for approximately $200
(you can tack on another $90 for
their jerseys), but I feel well pro-
tected in the less expensive Fluid
pants while favoring their durability.
But what I probably like most
about the Fluid gearset is it doesn't
look or really feel budget. The gear-
set you see on these pages is the

• AFFORDABLE
• DOESN'T LOOK LIKE BUDGET
GEAR
• WELL-BUILT
• FOR SOME, SOMEWHAT BAGGY
IN THIGH AREA
Fluid Corsa pant/jersey combo
in Night Navy. It also comes in
black. Keeping with the budget
theme here, we also wore Alpin-
estars' Tech 3 boots ($209.95),
SM5 helmet ($244.95) and Radar
gloves ($27.95).
The Fluid pant also seems to
be true-to-fit around the waist,
and there is ample room in the
thigh area; perhaps too much
for those with chicken legs, like
one of our testers. There is also
generous room in the lower leg
area to accommodate full-size
knee/shin guards and seemingly
most knee braces. The knee area
is also nicely padded and some-
what stretchy, mainly just above
the knee.
The Fluid pants are simple in
design. When it comes to cinching
everything down, all you have is
a single, easy-to-operate, ratchet
closure system, and sturdy zip-
pered fly.
And the jersey is light and airy
with an extended tail that tends to
stay tucked in. We also approve of
the sport collar design.
Simply put, Alpinestars hit the
mark with the affordable, well-
built and comfortable line of Fluid
gear. And, yes, best of all, it looks
anything but affordable.
