In fact, he
wasn't ever seri-
ously challenged.
A tricky track
that
caused count-
less mistakes
and
several falls
only provided the
faultless Kopp
with repeated
opportunities
to immediately
separate from the
pack and cruise
all alone out front.
The battles
behind him were
entertaining at
least. Dalton
Gauthier—the
2022 champion
-
ship runner-up
who
left the
American Honda-
backed Turner
Honda outfit to
contend for the
independent
D&D/Certified
KTM squad—
didn't seem to lose any speed
in the transition, twice finishing
second.
On Thursday, he was joined
on the podium by Estenson Rac
-
ing Yamaha's Trevor Brunner,
while
former teammate Chase
Saathoff took third-place honors
on Saturday.
Trent Lowe, who now fills
Gauthier's former seat with
Turner Honda, claimed a pair of
fourths, while a pair of talented
Aussies—Estenson Racing's
Tom Drane and Kopp's highly
decorated teammate, Max
Whale—split the fifths.
CN
on his competition than Daniels
had on his.
The defending class champ
came into the week saying the
number-one plate felt heavy,
both due to the increased
expectations and the target on
his back. However true, at least
outwardly the number-one plate
looked to be worth about five
horsepower.
Kopp was in complete control
of both events, twice topping
practice, qualifying, his heat
races, the Al Lamb's Dallas
Honda Challenge, and the Main
events.
Dalton Gauthier (79) didn't let
Kopp get away too much by
finishing second both nights.
