Peters Keeps It Cool In Colorado R ound eight of the AMA Arenacross se- ries took things up a notch—in terms of elevation—in Denver, Colorado, Febru- ary 10. Series leader Kyle Peters (Phoe- nix Honda) kept it consistent in both the pro mains, finishing first and second, further extending his points lead to 52. The first main went smooth as usual for Peters. He qualified fastest early in the day and got off to a solid up-front start in the first main event. Peters passed for the lead in the opening laps and stayed in the lead, letting the chaos unfold behind him. Preston Taylor finished second af - ter leading early on and Blake Gardner rounded out the podium. Main number two flipped the running order and put Peters in the back row. Moments after the drop of the gate, he tangled with other riders that put him deep in the field. Brandon Ray looked for redemption after a fall in race one and capitalized on Peters' misfortune. He got out front and stayed there for the distance, while Peters had to claw and scratch his way through the field. The defending champ, Peters, man - aged to get close to Ray late in the race but couldn't execute a pass for the lead. Peters had to settle for second behind Ray, while Kyle Bitterman rounded out the podium. CN Pro Main 1 1. Kyle Peters (Hon) 2. Preston Taylor (Kaw) 3. Blake Gardner (Kaw) Pro Main 2 1.
