into podium contention and, for
most of the race, looked like a
distant third. Hampshire then
strung together the fastest laps
of the race in back-to-back fash-
ion and closed the gap to McA-
doo. With just three minutes
left
on the clock, the number 24
executed a pass and held on for
his second consecutive second-
place finish. Another podium
performance puts Hampshire
six points down in the points
standings.
"Once I got into third, Cam ac
-
tually gapped me a bit," Hamp-
shire said. "I had a rough week."

this coast are RJ and Cam-
eron… so it's always, like, 'Okay,
where are
they at on the track?'
This week, I could see RJ was
a little bit back off the start, but
Cameron was right there. It's
just going off what I see in those
glimpses, like where they are,
body attacking."
Hampshire backed up his A1
ride with a heat-race win and
another second place in the
San Diego main. This one came
with some extra effort, though,
as he rounded the start line in
sixth after avoiding the holeshot
carnage. He worked his way

WHERE'S THE
INTENSITY?
Honda's Colt Nichols finished
a disappointing 12th in the
450SX main event. He said he's
encouraged by his good starts
but doesn't have a whole lot of
positives beyond that. "I just
didn't really have much intensity,"
he admitted. "I felt like I was just
riding around, not really racing
the track. I just need to be a little
smarter, get some time under
our belt." Nichols is currently
10th in the championship.
