HICKS GETS THE WIN AT GUTHRIE ARENACROSS
R
ound five of the AMA Aren-
across series took place in
Guthrie, Oklahoma, January 20,
at the Laze E Arena. The track
layout was much larger than
normal compared to the usual
ultra-tight Arenacross circuits.
This created some close racing
and gave the fans their money's
worth. Arenacross ace Michael
Hicks claimed victory over reign
-
ing champ Kyle Peters in both
Pro main-event motos.
The first main saw Peters up
front early with Hicks trailing off
the start. Hicks, who rides a 450,
made up crucial time in the ex
-
tended, double-whoops section.
This is where he executed the
pass for the lead on Peters, who
opted to race the smaller Honda
CRF250R. Hicks held the lead
from there on out to take the first
win of the night. Matthew Curler
rounded out the podium.
Race two flipped the running
order and put both Hicks and
Peters in the second row. Hicks
managed to close off Peters be
-
fore turn one and began his race
just inside the top five. A few key
passes put him in second, while
Peters took longer to move his
way up. Hicks eventually passed
the race leader, Izaih Clark, and
ran away with another win.
Peters made his way around
Clark for second, with Clark tak
-
ing the final spot on the podium.
Round six of the AMA Aren-
across Series is scheduled for
January 28 and will be held again
in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
