Oakland Supercross Postponed
T
he Oakland round of the 2023
Monster Energy Supercross
Series will now take place Febru-
ary 18, after heavy rain, which has
tormented California for more
than a week, forced organizers
to, on Wednesday, January 11,
postpone the January 14 race in
Oakland.
The RingCentral Coliseum
was just too saturated to host
the race. Feld Entertainment
said, "The safety of our athletes,
teams, operational and televi-
sion staff, and fans is always our
foremost concern."
All original ticket purchases
will be honored for the resched-
uled date. Ticket purchasers can
visit SupercrossLIVE for the most
up-to-date information regarding
this rescheduled event.
San Diego will now host round
two on January 21.
This is only the fourth time in
Supercross history that a race
has been canceled or postponed.
The first time happened in 1977,
also due to heavy rain. The Dallas
Supercross, which was held at
Texas Stadium in Irving at that
time and had an open roof, had
to cancel the second race of a
doubleheader. The first race on
Saturday night had so much rain
that it took more than an hour to
complete the 20-lap main event.
Bob Hannah won the race and
only a few motorcycles made it
to the finish line. Organizer called
off Sunday's race two that morn-
ing. It was not rescheduled.
The second Supercross post-
ponement came when organizers
decided to push back the Los
Angeles Memorial Coliseum race
three weeks due to recent rioting
in the area.
In 1985, the Pontiac Super-
cross in Michigan was canceled
when the stadium's roof col-
lapsed due to snow one month
before the race.

Widespread flooding in California forced the
postponement of the Oakland Supercross, which
will now take place February 18.
