Hicks Tops Topeka Arenacross
C
heckers flew for rounds 10
and 11 of the General Tire
Arenacross in Topeka, Kansas,
January 13-14. The competition
showed up for the weekend's
doubleheader, but series leader
Michael Hicks took home the
clean sweep.
The Ti Lube Honda racer suc
-
ceeded on all fronts come Friday
night's round 10. Good starts in
the 250cc Pro class put Hicks
at the front end of the field as
he took over the lead in the first
few laps of the main event. He'd
go on to claim that win ahead of
Mike Alessi and Henry Miller.
Friday's 450cc Pro class
looked like a carbon copy, as
Hicks set the fastest lap of
the race and took the eventual
victory. Alessi grabbed another
second-place finish, just five sec
-
onds back from Hicks. Honda-
mounted Carter Gordon took
third in the 450s.
Saturday night played host to
round 11 as racers re-racked be-
hind the starting gate. This time,
Alessi led early on but gave up
the top spot to Hicks just a few
laps in. Alessi and his two-stroke
stayed close, but Hicks was
a clear 2.5 seconds up for yet
another main event win. Gordon
grabbed third.
Finally, the 450cc Pro class
took to the track. To no surprise,
Hicks rocketed off the line and
led all 14 laps of the main event.
His perfect win streak in all four
main events earned him the Big
St. Charles Clean Sweep Award
and sent him home with extra
winnings. Alessi continued his
second-place success with Miller
again rounding out the box.
