hat can you say about
Joe Roberts? The
16-year-old rookie sensation took the AMA Pro Motorcycle-SuperStore.com SuperSport class by storm, going five
for five in his American road-racing debut with California Superbike School/Roadracingworld.
com Honda. It's something no
rookie has ever done. At Miller
he staved off strong challenges
by newly crowned Supersport
Champion Tomas Puerta and
surging Wyatt Farris.
Saturday's race came to a
critical head with just a few laps
to go when all three of the lead
riders entered turn one side by
side. All three wanted to hold the
lead coming out of the turn and it
was Roberts who found a way to
make it happen.
"Tomas [Puerta] was in front
of me, so I was trying to get the
draft on him," Roberts explained.
"When we went in [to turn one],
Wyatt pulled out and we were
three abreast going in. I broke
[sic] really late and almost actually hit the back of him because
he was swerving in just a little bit,
so I had to swerve back around
and pass him on the outside.
That was definitely an interesting
part in the race."
On the last lap Roberts eked
out a small gap to secure the win.
For Farris it was a stunning result,
scoring his first career podium.
"We have been working our
butts off all year," said Farris, a
19-year-old from Calistoga, California, who is in his first full season of
