We ran an interesting photo of the 1914 Aurora, Illinois, Fire Department
crew aboard their new Thor motorcycles, which were used to draw their
fire chariots. The motorcycles replaced their previous vehicles—horses.
We featured a story on the history of Thor motorcycles... We also featured
a road test of the Norton Commando Combat Roadster 750, which sold for
$1784, and Yamaha 360cc Enduro, which sold for $999... Ake Jonsson
won again in the Trans-AMA Series, this time in Puyallup, Washington.

LOOKING BACK
Trans-USA MX Champion Dave Hollis was pictured on the cover of
our whopping 32-page issue of Cycle News 40 years ago. CN's Mark
Kariya interviewed the privateer from Michigan... Local racing was pretty
much the only news at the time, with Doug Dubach, Tim Locey and
Ron Lechien coming away with the Pro-class wins at Saddleback Park...
Indian Dunes hosted the AME Stadium Star-o-cross, which attracted
some big names, like Ron Lechien, Rick Johnson, Jeff Ward and
Johnny O'Mara, who was the overall winner.
