Suzuki To Discontinue GSX-R1000 In Europe, Japan S uzuki plans to discontinue its hugely successful GSX- R1000 in Europe, reports the UK's MCN. Emissions appear to be the GSX-R1000's demise since the bike is not Euro5 compliant. The bike will be discontinued in Japan, as well. MCN spoke with Suzuki's Great Britain Director of Motorcycles Paul de Lusig- nan who said the company will focus on other, higher volume areas of the market as superbike sales continue to lag com- pared to other segments. He would not comment if Suzuki has any plans to bring the bike back down the road. CN S X Global announced that Adam Bailey has been promoted to chief executive officer (CEO), while Tony Cochrane will assume a new role as vice chairman of the SX Global board of directors. Prior to the promotion, Bailey occupied the posi- tion of director of motor- sports where he spear- headed development of the series' unique finan- cial model, negotiations and onboarding of the 10 exclusive team licenses, as well as development efforts for the innovative competitive structure and race format for the up-and-coming global supercross series. "I'm both humbled and honored to have the opportunity to step into the role as CEO of SX Global," said Bailey. "I am incredibly proud of what our team has achieved in such a short time, bringing this year's 'pilot season' to life. Most of all, I am excited for what the future brings." In his new role as vice chairman, Cochrane will continue to work securing new locations to expand the World Supercross Championship and com- mercial opportunities. CN Suzuki is beginning to phase out the GSX-R1000 in certain parts of the world, including Europe and Japan.
