Randy Hawkins was featured on the cover 30 years ago from the
Turkey National Enduro in Indiana, where he clinched the AMA National
Enduro title for the fourth time. Kelby Pepper took the race win... Scott
Summers won the Hare Scrambles National at Wickenburg, Arizona, but
Scott Plessinger went home to Ohio with the number-one plate... Cindy
Cole won the Freestyle Women's
West Coast Motocross Championship
that was held at Perris Raceway in
California... Dave Schultz won the
NHRA Pro Stock final at Pomona.
Our off-road special issue featured a little bit of everything, including new
Hare and Hound Champ Ty Davis, on the cover 20 years ago... Alex
Barros outdueled Valentino Rossi at the final MotoGP round of the year
at Valencia... The Kawasaki KX125 won our 2003 125cc Motocross
Shootout... We also race-tested the 2003 Honda XR650R, and we
recounted our experiences competing in the 24 Hours of Glen Helen
