Rea led confidently but ran on at turn one on lap six when he found neutral, recovering to slot in behind Bautista in third place. He lost around three seconds and a win that even Bautista said was going to be his. It would build up into a su- perbly tense and intense final few laps, as Bautista tried to flee but the Yamaha rider came back at him every time he passed—or tried to—until the third-to-last lap. As Rea closed in on the top two he set a new lap record of 1:37.277. On the last lap, a pass on Razgatlioglu at the end of the back straight from Bautista, into turn eight, was immediately un- done and Toprak squeezed past at the very site of his Saturday crash. He would go on to win the thrilling 10 lapper. It ended up Razgatlioglu, Bau- tista and Rea all covered by just 0.856 seconds. Behind the podium trio Mi- chael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Ducati) was fourth, Lowes fifth and Lecuona sixth. The final WorldSBK race of the weekend had a strange start, with Bautista swept into the lead- ing pack, as his teammate Rinaldi took the lead he would hold for four laps—until Bautista took it from him and ran away for win number two of the weekend. Razgatlioglu gave his all but finished over three seconds back from Bautista. With an unexpected lack of grip Rea got dropped down to sixth at one stage and had to battle back into contention, then finish third, ahead of Lowes. Rinaldi won his personal race- within-a-race to take fifth place, with HRC teammates Xavi Vierge and Iker Lecuona right behind him in sixth and seventh places, respectively. Garrett Gerloff's weekend in Argentina didn't go to plan, the Texan rolling in with two 13th places and a 12th at the round. "It's a bit frustrating as we could be placed higher, but we don't give up. We'll try to find something good for the remaining races," Gerloff said. "We struggled with rear-tire grip, which also didn't help our chances. Let's stay positive for the remaining rounds, I'm sure we can enjoy a good end to the season." In the championship after 10 rounds and 30 races, Bautista's new points total is 507, Razgatlio- glu has 425, Rea 409, Rinaldi 260 and Lowes 217. The penultimate championship round takes place at Mandalika in Indonesia, between November 11-13. WorldSSP Dominique Aegerter (Ten Kate Yamaha) took pole position yet again in WorldSSP and looked an unlikely race winner for much of race one. It was to become his own personal property only in the final lap when he passed long-time leader Rafaelle De Rosa (Orelac Racing VerdNatura Ducati) and crossed the line with a winning margin of 0.292 seconds. Third place went to Federico Caricasulo (Althea Ducati) who lost a possible second when he ran-on into a hairpin and Aegerter came through, with just enough time to hunt down De Rosa. Off podium, Can Oncu (Ka- IN THE WIND P40 Scott Redding pushed on but was outgunned by the Ducatis and Kawasakis.
