W
hen a rider has ac-
complished as much
in their career as
factory Indian hero Jared Mees,
they often require a genuine
challenge to stay motivated. The
2022 Progressive American Flat
Track season certainly provided
that, and then some.
But for all the consternation
and debate surrounding the rule
changes implemented in hopes of
leveling the playing field between
race-only and production-based
equipment, it's hard to argue with
the end results. At final tally, the
factory Indians notched up a com-
bined six victories—equal to the
number scored by the Estenson
Racing Yamahas—while the private
Indian FTR750s of the indepen-
dent Mission Roof Systems outfit
garnered four of their own.
The title fight, too, was terrifi-
cally close. Four riders—Mees,
his Indian Wrecking Crewmate
Briar Bauman and Estenson
Racing teammates Dallas
Daniels and JD Beach—all had
realistic pathways to the cham-
pionship entering the season-
ending doubleheader at Volusia
Speedway Park.
