VOLUME 59 ISSUE 41 OCTOBER 11, 2022 P111 STAND-OUT FEATURE: Auto On/Off Recording Technology with 4K video resolution RIDER ANALYSIS: Having a full-time front-and-rear camera recording while you're riding your motorcycle could pay off big-time if you're ever involved in an accident. Motorcyclists are easy targets for law enforcement and cage drivers when accidents occur. It seems that it's always our fault simply because we're riding a motorcycle. I started using a helmet cam while commuting to work in SoCal years ago after a car tried to run me off the road simply because I was splitting lanes (legal in California), and he didn't want to be passed. In that application, I quickly learned that action cameras, due to their relatively short battery life, are not ideal for full-time operation and you're just lucky if you happen to have it on when some- thing unexpected happens. If I had been running a full-time front-and-rear camera that day, I could have proven my case and had that a-hole arrested, but as it was, I had no evidence. So, what if someone made such a devise geared specifically for moto? Well, that's exactly what INNOVV did. The INNOVV brand took off rap- idly in Europe and elsewhere around the world a few years ago, and now, thousands of U.S. riders are discover- ing the benefits of this "install and forget" dash cam technology. Let's start with the installation. It's straightforward and very easy, with good instructions; however, some of the wires are really short while The GPS allows for time, location and speed to be embedded on the recorded video, each of which can be turned on or off using the app. The unit also has a "G" sensor that can detect a crash, or, if your bike is parked and some idiot knocks it over, the K5 will start record- ing automatically so you can identify the loser and have them pay for dam- ages. How cool is that? If you want to use the K5 as an ac- tion camera and narrate videos as you record, there's a wired microphone sup- plied for that. Or you can affix it some- where on the bike and let it record the awesome sound of your exhaust note as you rail through the twisties. Not to mention that it's waterproof, with an IP67 rating that's good for up to three feet under water for 30 minutes. Hope- fully we don't have to test that! We absolutely love the INNOVV K5, and we'll be using it to capture action footage for years to come. Oh, and if we ever come across another road- raged cage driver, we'll be ready to capture the red-faced bastard for the world, and the judge, to see. Keith Dowdle others are much too long. Neither is a big problem, but we couldn't figure out why the power lead is less than a foot long while the wires going to the other components are almost 10 feet long. That leaves a huge bundle of wire that needs to be stuffed behind a hunk of bodywork somewhere. Argh. Once we managed to conceal the wires, we downloaded the app that connects via the K5's built-in Wi- Fi and offers endless controllability, fine-tuning of the system, and super- fast downloading of the video you've recorded straight to your phone. The K5 records a ton of video in a looping format—up to 512 GB on the (purchased separately) SD card—with a 120-degree view. It records in 4K res on the front cam and 1080p on the rear and can also capture still images or save segments of video on com- mand using the handlebar-mounted "smart remote." The smart remote also keeps you informed of the Wi-Fi, DVR and GPS status without the need to remove your eyes from the road.
