"Looking at the mud today I was
kind of excited since the pace
would be a bit slower. I was feel-
ing comfortable on what I could
trust and kept it calm for my first
Nations."
Team USA still led after moto
two but had Hunter Lawrence
and fast-lap-setter Ferrandis
not crashed in the race, the
standings might've looked a lot
different.
RACE 3:
MXGP/OPEN
Going into the deciding final
MXGP/Open-class moto, Team
USA had a small eight-point lead
the leader, Guadagnini, and
passed him. Sexton's lead, how-
ever, was short-lived when was
unable to attempt LaRocco's
Leap later that same lap and the
Italian got him back.
On the move, however, was
Jett Lawrence who looked right
at home on the American Honda
HRC-backed 450. The Australian
eventually motored around Sex-
ton and then caught and passed
Guadagnini for the impressive
moto victory. It also put Australia
very much in the hunt for the
overall team championship.
Sexton would also get around
Guadagnini for second in the
moto.
"After yesterday my speed was
track was still muddy, at least the
rain—for now—was holding off.
Italy's Mattia Guadagnini took
the holeshot and led most of
race two. The GasGas rider
proved to be a serious threat
among the best 450 riders.
Early on, Sexton sat second with
Lawrence closing in third.
Cooper and Hunter Lawrence
were running as the top 250 rid-
ers, despite the two tangling on
the first lap, which left Hunter on
the ground. But the Aussie was
up quickly and looking to grab
some big points, only to tip over
again later in the race. Cooper
again rode superbly and was the
top 250cc rider in fourth overall.
