when Jett Lawrence came call-
ing, Sexton didn't put up much
of a fight and let him go as the
rain started falling again.
Lawrence went after Renaux
but later was forced to toss his
goggles and that was that.

Ferrandis ended up crashing yet
again, dropping to sixth.
Renaux stepped in and
headed the field for the French
team. He thwarted all attempts
by Sexton to take the lead, but
the Honda rider played it smart
and didn't push the point, know-
over Australia, 16-24, and France
was right there with 32 and Italy
with 40. However, each team
had one throw-away moto, which
hadn't been factored in yet. Bot-
tom line—it wasn't over yet and
Team USA still had to perform.
Team France blasted out of
the gate with Renaux and Fer-
randis going 1-2. Team USA had
a big scare when Tomac got
together with the speedy Geerts
and got hung up just after the
start, but Tomac recovered
quickly and was hovering just
outside the top 10. Luckily for
Team USA, Sexton got a good
start and was holding down
third, which took some of the
pressure off Tomac.
Ferrandis was flying. The Star
Yamaha rider quickly passed
his compatriot, Renaux, for
the lead, setting the stage for

Jett Lawrence was spectacular in his 450cc
debut, winning the final MXGP/Open moto
and helping put Team Australia on the
podium in third place. He was given the
Ricky Carmichael Award for the youngest
and best scoring rider in the class.
