Track condi tions went from a little muddy during th e early ra ces to very good a s the day progressed. The 125s lined up for the first P ro moto o f th e da y and Watilo (Ya ma h a S upport/ R .W . R a ci n g ) shot to th e front as th e pack h eaded for th e uphill. Beh ind him , Tim Michl itsch , Doug Lange, Jon Bu ya s and Gra yson Hart led a tightly grouped p a ck when the 24-rider field h ad co m p le ted la p one. Wa tilo a nd Mi ch litsch put on a great ra ce for th e first three la p s until Watilo caugh t hi s forks in part of th e fen cing, dropping h im to fifth . Michlitsch wa s then on his way to the win , but behind him a raging bail ie . between four Yamah a rider s h ad fan s running for th e fen ces. Lange, Buyas, Mik e McC ormick and Wa tilo pu t o n o ne o f th e best ra ces seen in a long tim e. All four riders were g ivi n g 125% a n d Buyas was m aking jumps like Evel Kni evel. Wit h three laps to go Wat ilo m ad e a ch a rg e, landing him in th ird behind Lange. Lange gav e it a ll h e had, keeping Watil o behind him to the checkers with McCormi ck , Bu ya s, a n d Mike Klenke fini shing second through six th behind Michlitsch .
